Following a request of support from an old contact BSAP engaged in a design & commercial review of this listed building in the centre of Birmingham. The project was in a state of hold due to affordability issues and a deadline to maximise grant funding streams for the refurbishment works. BSAPs first exercise was to review both the historical design and the cost allocation for the MEP works. It was also clear that the financial constraints meant that alternative solutions needed to be found and through a comprehensive evaluation of key areas of cost/scope key systems were re appraised such as Lighting, Ventilation and Interior finish bringing about some significant debate between all.  Through the design review it was also clear that the design was incurring significant engineering due to the nature of this old Victorian building and the physical constraint of the building structure, however a rationalisation and combining of systems ensured that plant space was reviewed and re distribution of systems agreed to ensure a more practical installation to be achieved.

The proposal was again put back to a select group of contractors and an agreed contractor sum developed which has delivered significant savings and has ensured that the project can be re-ignited and with a programme agreed to achieve the funding milestones that are critical to the scheme progressing.
